35 years of Summer Blockbusters - May 31

May 31, 2002 - Eight years ago paramount tried to revive the Jack Ryan franchise by releasing The Sum Of All Fears, based on the Tom Clancy novel. Ben Affleck took on the role of jack Ryan, replacing Harrison Ford, who was a replacement for the original, and best actor, Alec Baldwin. The film about terrorist striking in the U.S. had the challenge of opening just eight months after 9/11 and Americans were still recovering from a real attack and were not receptive to a fictional one. The film was not a total failure and it's possible Affleck could grow into the role if the series continued, but that is doubtful.
