365+ movies in 365 Days: Day 152 - Beauty And The Beast Sing-Along

FathomEvents.com held a special showing of Disney's Beauty And The Beast as a sing-along. The words to the songs appeared at the bottom of the screen and the entire audience participated. At first you feel self concious singing along in the dark, but you soon get into the spirit of the thing. It would have been more fun if the theatre was full, but the event only drew a moderate crowd.

The movie itself has stood the test of time and is one of the best animated films Disney ever made. I was concerned about how dark the print look but I think that the theatre had turned down the power of the projector bulb, causing the film to look dim. Where is Martin Scorcese when you need him?

A second showing of Beauty And The Beast is coming up this Saturday at noon. Fathom Events is also sponsoring a one night only showing of the director's cut of The Exorcist. That takes place this evening. Check your theatres for local listing. Another upcoming event is a Sound Of Music sing-Along later in October. We will probably head over to the Castro theatre to see that one.

Along with a dim bulb the film started very late. It was scheduled for 6:30 and didn't get started until 7:00 PM. The movie featured an intro with Jordan Sparks, so the actual film did not start until 7:20. The theatre managers were a little befuddled but they compensated the entire audience with free return passes so that was nice.

We saw the film at the AMC Metreon. This used to be an entertainement mecca in San Francisco when it was the Sont/Loews Metreon. The theme restaurants are mostly gone and Sony bailed out last year. But the theatre is still running with 14 screen and the only IMAX screen in San Francisco.

At The Movie House rating  Beauty And The Beast ****  Sing-Along event **1/2 stars
