365+ Movies In 365 Days: Day 275 - The Kids Are All Right

The Kids Are All Right is a 2010 comedy/drama that has received four Academy Award nominations including one for Best Picture.

This very adult film is about Joni (Mia Wasikowska) and Laser (Josh Hutcherson) a brother and sister who happen to have two moms. The moms are Nick (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore).

Nick is Joni's biological mother and Jules is laser's. Both woman used the same sperm donor to have their babies. Now that she is 18, laser convinces Mia to contact the sperm bank and try to find out who their biological father is.

Their father turns out to be Paul (Mark Ruffalo)the owner of a local restaurant and general free spirit.

Paul's entry into the families life upsets the balance of this families daily life and is the central story of the film.

The movie is very funny and it has an authenticity about it that gives the sense of a real family. the writing is terrific and the acting is spot on. The film was a big hit in a summer filled with dreadful action movies and it is one of the best adult movies of the year.

At the Movie House rating ***1/2 stars.
