Today's film was
Disney's Atlantis:The Lost Empire. This was the Disney's 41st feature length animated film. It was released in 2001. It was a straight forward adventure tale and quite a change from the musicals they had been producing in the 90's. It featured voice work by James Garner, Michael J. Fox and Leonard Nimoy among others and it tells of a team of explorers attempt to find the lost continent of Atlantis. The story is pretty straight forward and very formulaic. There is no real heart to it and it lacks any real elements of suspense or tension for an adventure film.
The animation was well done and there are some interesting set pieces, but the film lacked the visual impact of some of the better animated movies Disney has made.
It was an entertaining 96 minutes, but nothing special. At The Movie House rating ** 1/2 stars.
Viewed on DVD upscaled on a Blu-Ray player. (note this film may have been more enjoyable on the big screen due to the wide screen animation)
