35 years of Summer Blockbusters - May 4th



May 4, 2007 - Three years ago Spider-Man returned for his third and now final outing in "Spider-Man 3" at least the final one with Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Rami. The film opened in 4,253 theatres and was the number one box office film of 2007 with a worldwide gross of $890 million dollars. At The Movie House rating ** stars



May 4, 2001 - nine years ago Universal released "The Mummy Returns". The film was released wide to 3,401 theatres and with a US box office of $202 million it surpassed the original in ticket sales. It did not receive the same critical praise as the first film, with most critics panning it. At The Movie House Rating ** stars




May 4, 1984 - Twenty six years ago the film "Sixteen Candles" opened. The film starred Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall and was directed by John Hughes. This was Hughes first film directed at an 80's teenage audience and it was well received. The film has earned cult status among gen-xers who were coming of age during it's release.
